Lab-grown Diamond
Quality Evaluation: Choose by the Same 4Cs
Lab-grown diamonds are graded by the same 4Cs as natural diamonds. 'Lab-grown means they're all the same' is a misconception.
01What Are the 4Cs?
| C | Meaning | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Carat | Weight (1ct = 0.2g) | Indicator of size. Same carat can look different depending on cut |
| Color | Scale from colorless to tinted (D is the highest) | G–H grades still appear white once set in a ring |
| Clarity | Fewer inclusions = higher grade (FL to I) | VS class and above is a practical benchmark (invisible to the naked eye) |
| Cut | Quality of polish (Excellent to Poor) | The most important factor for brilliance. Don't compromise here |

The 4Cs. Both lab-grown and natural are evaluated stone by stone, using the same four criteria.
02What to Know About Lab-grown
Lab-grown diamonds make it easier to obtain higher color and clarity grades. This means the differentiator becomes 'how good is the cut' rather than 'how high is the grade.' When choosing, look at cut grade first.
03How to Read a Grading Report
A grading report includes:
- Clear statement that the diamond is lab-grown (synthetic)
- Grade for each of the 4Cs
- Dimensions (diameter, depth)
- Report number, which can be matched to the girdle inscription
- Growth method (HPHT/CVD) may be noted
For details on grading reports for the lab-grown diamonds we offer, please inquire at the shop.
04Girdle Inscription
A tiny laser inscription, invisible to the naked eye, is engraved on the stone's girdle (edge). It matches the report number. It does not affect brilliance. This inscription ensures the report and stone always match.
