Lab-grown Diamond

How Pricing Works: Lower Cost Means Rarity, Not Quality

Lab-grown diamonds are more affordable because there is no mining or distribution cost and supply is stable. Stone quality has nothing to do with it.

01What's Included in a Natural Diamond's Price

What's included in a natural diamond's price

  1. Cost of exploring and mining
  2. Cost of sorting gem-quality stones from vast ore
  3. Cost of distribution through many hands
  4. Rarity: billions of years in the making

Lab-grown diamond pricing

  1. Exploring and mining costs
  2. Sorting costs
  3. Long distribution chain costs
  4. Growing cost plus cutting and polishing

The price difference comes from "rarity" and "mining/distribution" — not from stone quality (4C).

Lab-grown diamonds have no mining, sorting, or long distribution chain. And they do not carry a rarity premium in their price.

02'Cheaper Means Lower Quality' Is Wrong

The price difference reflects rarity, not quality. Stone quality is graded separately by 4C. At the same 4C grade, natural and lab-grown diamonds have the same brilliance.

03What Changes with the Same Budget

With the same center stone budget, lab-grown gives you two options:

  • A larger stone
  • Same size, but higher color and clarity

Or you could reduce the center stone budget and put more toward the ring design or marriage rings.

Choose natural

The story of billions of years and rarity. For those who want future asset value

Go larger with lab-grown

With the same budget, choose a larger center stone

Go higher grade with lab-grown

Same size, but higher color and clarity

Three ways to spend the same budget. None is inherently better.

04Prices Will Continue to Change

The market price of lab-grown diamonds has declined with advances in manufacturing technology. It may continue to change. We do not recommend them as an asset. Do not expect to resell at the purchase price.

An engagement ring is not bought to be sold. It is meant to sparkle on your ring finger every day. That value is the same for both natural and lab-grown.

05Our Approach to Pricing

  • Engagement ring listed prices are setting-only prices (center stone not included)
  • Center stones accommodate 0.50ct to 1.20ct. Setting price stays the same within this range
  • Center stone pricing depends on natural/lab-grown, size, and quality. Available at the shop
